The children of a woman who was tragically slain on a Maryland jogging trail in 2023 have initiated a lawsuit against their grandmother and aunt, claiming they have not received any funds from online fundraising efforts said to be for their benefit.

Rachel Morin’s body was discovered on August 6, 2023, near the Ma & Pa Trail in Harford County, as reported by CrimeOnline. An intensive search concluded with the arrest of Victor Martinez-Hernandez in Oklahoma ten months later. He was found guilty of Morin’s murder and is set to be sentenced in August.

According to the lawsuit, a GoFundMe campaign was established following Morin’s murder to cover funeral expenses, with any leftover funds intended for her five children, aged between 9 and 19, as per reports from WJZ. The lawsuit claims that nearly $55,000 was raised through the account, yet the children have not received any portion of the funds, which are being held in an account managed by Morin’s mother, Patty Morin, and sister, Rebekah Morin.

The suit also says that donated gifts were never given to them.

According to the Baltimore Banner, the lawsuit was filed by Faye McMahon, Morin’s 19-year-old daughter and the executor of her estate, and the fathers of her four younger children, Jonathan Alderson and Joseph Custer.
