CHICAGO — Chicago Stars FC forward Mallory Swanson is expecting her first child with husband Dansby Swanson, shortstop for the Chicago Cubs.

The couple announced the pregnancy on social media on Wednesday, with Mallory Swanson captioning a series of photos, “Our greatest blessing.”

Mallory Swanson, 27, was part of the U.S. team that claimed victory in the 2019 Women’s World Cup and also clinched the gold medal at the Paris Olympics last summer. She was instrumental in the Olympic final, scoring the only goal in the 1-0 win against Brazil to secure the gold medal.

Mallory Swanson has not taken the field this season for her club, the Chicago Stars, in the National Women’s Soccer League. She has been given leeway for personal reasons and hasn’t represented the U.S. team since their gold medal success in Paris.

Dansby Swanson, 31, is celebrated as a two-time All-Star. He secured a World Series win with the Atlanta Braves in 2021 and received consecutive Gold Glove awards in 2022 and 2023.
