Dr. Sanford Sherman and his wife, Aliza Sherman, who have been married for thirty years, are currently involved in a heated divorce, with accusations of cheating and mishandling finances surfacing. Aliza faces further difficulty when her lawyer is temporarily banned, necessitating the appointment of a new attorney. Gregory Moore from the Stafford Law Company steps in, but Aliza quickly perceives issues. Moore appears unprepared for court and frequently asks to postpone proceedings, until the judge ultimately denies additional delays.

The trial is set to start soon, and the day before, Moore contacts Aliza via text, asking her to visit his office in downtown Cleveland to discuss the case. Aliza, feeling cold, tells Moore she’s heading back to her car after arriving at the Stafford Law Company.

On her way to the vehicle, she encounters a masked attacker dressed in dark clothing and gloves. The individual circles her, then pursues and stabs the 53-year-old woman over ten times. She sustains wounds to her face, neck, right ear, and is stabbed eight times in the back. Despite her grave injuries, a critically injured Aliza manages to call 911. A passerby also phones for help. Paramedics rush her to the hospital, where she is unfortunately declared dead due to her injuries.
