New: Thom Tillis Really Won't Like Trump's Rumored Replacement Pick for DC US Attorney

The phrase “Be careful what you wish for” frequently crosses my mind while contemplating political strategies. When considering the removal of a particular politician or appointee, it is crucial to ensure the successor won’t be even worse. A case in point is when I discussed LA County Department of Public Health Director Barbara Ferrer. Someone questioned, “What if Ferrer is replaced by someone equally committed as Ferrer but with more charisma and eloquence?” Unfortunately, Not-a-Doctor Ferrer remains in her position, so we have yet to see who might replace her, but the cautionary note has lingered with me.

This is a consideration that Sen. Thom Tillis (R-RINO) overlooked when he openly challenged President Trump’s nomination of Ed Martin for US Attorney for the District of Columbia. Trump, addressing reporters on Thursday, indicated he would appoint someone else, as Martin’s nomination was unlikely to advance in the Senate Judiciary Committee due to Tillis’ opposition—a move that seemed to be a short-term victory for Tillis.
