CHICAGO (WGN) A golfer remained in an intensive care unit on Tuesday morning after being struck by a driver of a car who was “driving erratically” on the course on the city’s far northwest side, authorities said.

The golfer, a 70-year-old man, was taken to St. Francis Hospital in Evanston after being struck at the 5th hole at Billy Caldwell Golf Course about 5:30 p.m. Monday, a statement from the Cook County Forest Preserve Police Department said.

Video captured by another golfer showed two vehicles on the green. Officials say the driver of one was trying to stop the other.

The driver who struck the golfer was arrested by Forest Preserve officers, and charges were pending Tuesday. Chicago police also responded to the course on the 6100 block of North Caldwell Avenue, in Chicago’s Forest Glen neighborhood.

A statement from management at the course expressed gratitude “for the swift response of law enforcement” and added they were supporting the efforts in the investigation but declined to comment further.
