Over two years after she vanished, a Connecticut woman’s remains have been found in Japan.

According to The New York Post, Patricia “Pattie” Wu-Murad, a 60-year-old mother of three, was found on May 9.

On April 10, 2023, she vanished soon after leaving a guesthouse in Higashiōmi city, setting out on an 11-mile trek towards Osaka. Wu-Murad was meant to join a couple at the Ryozen-ji Temples; however, she never arrived, sparking an extensive search that has concluded in sorrow following the finding of her remains.

“On Friday, May 9, 2025, our family was informed that our cherished wife, mother, sister, daughter, aunt, and friend, Pattie Wu-Murad, has passed away,” the family shared on Saturday via Facebook.

“While hiking, he came across several personal belongings of Pattie’s along with a bone that seemed to be a femur. He handed these remains over to the local Japanese authorities, who verified them as human.”

As CrimeOnline previously reported, Wu-Murad retired during the COVID-19 pandemic and began traveling solo more often, including hiking a segment of the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage in Europe.

For weeks, police, family members, and search crews  scoured the remote area. Search and rescue (SAR) teams have searched into crevices and water and deployed helicopters and drones in their effort to find her.

“She seemed to be full of energy,” Innkeeper Shigeaki Tsuji, who was the last to see Pattie, previously told The Messenger last year. “This case is a strange one from the start. I don’t understand why someone with so much experience would get lost on such a simple trail.”

The story is developing. Check back for updates.
