A FORMER Supreme Court judge has blasted Europe’s human rights laws imposed on Brits.

Jonathan Sumption said we have no control over the European Convention on Human Rights and its  influence on our laws.

He backed a Policy Exchange report which hit back at claims that leaving the convention would be a betrayal of Sir Winston Churchill.

Lord Sumption commented, “It has now evolved into a growing source of domestic law where Parliament holds no sway or control and lacks the power to repeal or amend it.

“The British electorate has no say in it. The constitutional implications are significant, yet they are scarcely understood by the public or recognized by career politicians.”

The report contends that although Britain was instrumental in drafting the ECHR, it diverges significantly from what the Government had envisioned as a protection against fascism and communism.
