A Delta flight erupted into chaos on Saturday when two pigeons were discovered in the plane’s main cabin, video of the pandemonium shows.

As shared in an Instagram post from another traveler, Tom Caw was the individual who noticed the initial pigeon prior to the flight’s departure from Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport. According to Caw, the pilot made an announcement about the pigeon sighting and returned to the gate to have the bird removed.

As the plane taxied out once more, ready for takeoff, a second pigeon appeared and flew down the main aisle, as shown in a video Caw uploaded on Instagram and obtained by NBC News. The presence of the bird triggered several passengers to scream.

“The pilot mentioned that when he contacted the control tower about our return due to a pigeon, the person responded that it was a first for them,” Caw noted. “The pilot replied that it was actually the second time for him—coincidentally, the first time happening just half an hour earlier.”

Delta issued a statement apologizing for the disruption to the flight, which was headed for Madison, Wisconsin.

“Delta appreciates the careful actions of our people and our customers to safely remove two birds from the aircraft prior to departure, and we apologize to our customers for the delay in their travel,” the company said in a statement.

Caw said a baggage handler removed the second bird.

“My guess is the pigeons were tired of flying and wanted snacks,” he wrote on Instagram. “They didn’t know this flight to MSN is too short for Delta to offer beverage/snack service.”
