What exactly went wrong in Dakota Johnson and Chris Martin's relationship: report

Dakota Johnson and Chris Martin reportedly split after nearly eight years together — for two reasons.

The actress known for her role in “Fifty Shades of Grey,” who is 35, and the 48-year-old lead singer of Coldplay, have reportedly ended their relationship. The split is attributed to differences in age and views on having children, as shared by a source with the US Sun.

According to an insider, “Dakota has long hoped for things to work out with Chris, and each time they separated, it left her heartbroken and in tears.”

“Even members of Dakota’s team had to comfort her during their time apart because she found it difficult to move on. Her affection for him and his children is undeniable, and he cares deeply for her too, but timing and circumstances seemed to always get in the way, leading to an up-and-down relationship,” the source explained.

“They really tried to work through their issues but the age gap was often a problem. She’d [also] expressed that she may want children in the future, whereas Chris is kind of done with that part of his life.”

The source told the outlet that Johnson and Martin had been “back and forth on issues for years” and had discussions about everything, including children.

“They made some beautiful memories as a family and it’ll be hard for both of them to move on after such a long relationship but they will do it,” the insider claimed.

Page Six has reached out to reps for both Martin and Johnson for comment.

On Wednesday, news surfaced that the couple, who began their on-again, off-again relationship in 2017, had split.

A source told People that the breakup felt “final this time.”

Three years after the “Hymn for the Weekend” singer separated from ex-wife Gwyneth Paltrow in 2014, he was spotted on a sushi date with Johnson in Los Angeles.

In January 20218, they were then seen attending a star-studded fashion show together in the City of Angels.

As their relationship blossomed, the “Madame Web” star got close with Martin and Paltrow’s two kids — Apple, 21, and Moses, 19 — and even vacationed with them several times.

The couple was rumored to have called it quits in June 2019. However, they reconciled and sparked engagement rumors the following December when Johnson was spotted with a massive emerald ring on that finger.

An insider told Page Six last March that the pair had actually been engaged for six years, though another source told People they were “in no rush to get married.”

Last August, when breakup rumors began to surface again, Johnson’s rep insisted that the duo was “happily together.”

The “Fifty Shades Freed” actress confirmed what her rep said by flashing her emerald engagement ring at the paparazzi.
