A group backed by Democratic mega donor George Soros is pouring money into Texas ahead of next year’s midterms in hopes of flipping the red state blue.

The Texas Majority PAC and the Texas Democratic Party launched an eight-figure campaign dubbed “Blue Texas” on Monday aimed at electing Democrats up and down the ballot in the Lone Star State next year.

Later this month, the effort will hold kickoff rallies in Harris, Dallas, Travis, Bexar, Tarrant, Denton, Collin, Brazoria, Williamson, Hidalgo, Cameron and El Paso counties. Next month, Blue Texas will launch the “Turn Texas Blue” tour, which will make stops in over 24 cities, including Amarillo, Lubbock, Midland/Odessa, Galveston, Paris and Port Arthur.

Soros funds the Texas Majority PAC.

The launch comes as incumbent Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, fights for his political life in a closely contested primary against Republican Attorney General Ken Paxton. Most polls show Paxton leading Cornyn ahead of the February primary. However, other polls show Democrats within striking distance of Paxton in a general election.

Texas Democrats say that Paxton’s potential weakness with the state’s general electorate opens up an opportunity for them in the state, where the party has struggled to make inroads.

“We’re combining deep experience, local leadership, and significant statewide investment to meet this moment,” said Katherine Fischer, director of the Texas Majority PAC. “With Trump back in the White House and Ken Paxton dragging down the GOP ticket, we have a massive opportunity to win in 2026. Our efforts this cycle are aimed at winning in the short term, and making Texas a true battleground state in the long term.”
