Public can share input on Castillo de San Marcos seawall project

The National Park Service is seeking public input on raising the seawalls at Castillo de San Marcos. Comments are open until July 9.

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. — The National Park Service is inviting the public to provide their feedback on an important initiative to elevate and restore the seawalls at the historic Castillo de San Marcos National Monument.

The period for public comments is currently open and will continue until July 9. This period is the last chance for community members, tourists, and stakeholders to express their views on the suggested modifications before the plans are set in stone.

This project is designed to tackle issues related to flooding, storm surges, and the long-term conservation of this historic landmark. These improvements are part of a wider strategy to safeguard the monument and its surrounding areas from the effects of rising sea levels and erosion.

Construction on the seawall is expected to begin in 2026 and could take up to two years to complete.

Anyone interested in participating can access the survey and provide comments through the National Park Service’s planning website. You can access the survey by clicking here.
