A Nexstar’s WREG News Channel 3 reporter in Memphis, Tennessee, experienced a frightening incident when he was carjacked at gunpoint at a local gas station on Tuesday morning.

The carjacking unfolded at a Mobil station situated at the intersection of E.H. Crump Boulevard and Third Street, a busy area located about a mile from WREG’s studio. The assailant targeted reporter Mike Suriani, who was on assignment, demanding his news vehicle, a white 2016 Toyota RAV4.

According to Suriani, he was refueling his car and had just exited the vehicle when a masked man approached from the sidewalk, insisting he hand over the car keys. The assailant’s hand was visibly on a gun protruding from his pocket.

Suriani handed over the keys and the man drove off southbound on Third Street. The reporter was unhurt.

WREG managed to get surveillance video of the incident.

The suspect got away with the Toyota with camera gear inside. There was not a WREG logo on the side, but the number 19 is on the bottom right bumper of the vehicle. The tag number is BHM 6360.

Police described the suspect as a male with a dark complexion, possibly 6 feet tall, wearing a black head scarf, white jacket, gray shirt and black pants.
