GLENWOOD, Ill. (WCIA) — “Chatham Strong” signs line the street outside Glenwood High School, a reminder that you can’t take tomorrow for granted.

“You’re not promised anything, whether it’s time or chances and such,” head coach Vondel Edgar stated. “Things can shift daily, and it’s beyond our control.”

“Regardless if we’re competing in a game or practicing, we’re going to put in our best effort, always giving 100%, because nothing is promised,” said sophomore Ava Bobb. “Tomorrow is always uncertain.”

Glenwood softball has forged a strong team bond this season, heading to state for the first time since 2014 with a 35-1 record.

“Our team chemistry is incredible; I consider these girls my family,” Bobb expressed. “I enjoy being around them every day.” “They make playing so enjoyable, and they help me realize it’s more than just a sport.”

“With us being so close, we just know everybody has to charge back,” sophomore Hope Gilmore said. “Knowing that we’re all like one family, we all play for each other, and we do everything for each other, so it just makes us want it even more.”

It’s not just the team that’s unified.

“The whole community has come together this year, and it really has just meant a lot more to be able to be here and be on the field and be able to have the opportunity that others might not be able to have,” Bobb said.

Regardless of what happens over the weekend at state, the Titans are grateful to have two more games to play with this senior class.

“This group of seniors is amazing,” Gilmore said. “I couldn’t ask for a better group of seniors to go with. These are some of my best friends, so getting to extend the season and play as long as we can.”
