GROVETOWN, Ga. () – The City of Grovetown, in collaboration with the Georgia Department of Transportation, is hosting a public information open house to gather residents’ opinions on intersection improvements.

Officials are looking to realign and improve Robinson Ave. from Old Wrightsboro Rd. to Newmantown Road.

This new traffic pattern will improve the traffic flow in that area of Grovetown.

Right now, there is no signal at the intersection of Old Wrightsboro Road, Robinson Avenue and Hardy Drive.

Eric Wilkinson, Assistant TIA Administrator, explained, “We plan to install a signal at that intersection and close Newmantown Road, realigning it to Hardy Circle. Once completed, a roundabout will be located there, allowing traffic from Newmantown to enter through the roundabout and onto Robinson Avenue at the signal, which will be positioned right at the railroad tracks.”

From 2017 to 2021 the injury rate along that portion of Robinson Avenue. was higher than the statewide average.

The goal of these changes is to make it safer for drivers and pedestrians.

According to Wilkinson, “The improvements at Newmantown are intended to address accident concerns and improve traffic flow in the area. The new signal will facilitate left turn movements, eliminating the need for drivers to make a right turn only to double back.”

He explained how much the project will cost.

Wilkinson said, “The total construction budget now is over 12 million, that’s including right of way, construction, PE and utilities.”

They hope to start construction on this improvement in January of 2028 and hope to complete it by July of 2029.
