Dozens have been arrested in a “retail theft blitz” across the state, according to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.

In a release, FDLE officials announced that the blitz was part of a larger nationwide effort to tackle organized crime rings that prey on retailers.

In all, there were 44 people arrested — including three undocumented immigrants — and over $207,000 in stolen assets recovered, the release reveals.

“Through exceptional collaboration among our state law enforcement agencies and the Florida Organized Retail Crime Exchange, 44 criminals have been detained as part of a nationwide effort against organized retail theft,” remarked Attorney General James Uthmeier. “In Florida, the rule of law is significant; this instance demonstrates how our state partners with law enforcement to deter criminal activity.”

The release states that the individuals involved are suspected of stealing a diverse array of items, such as personal grooming items, apparel, sports equipment, tools for home improvement, and related supplies.

As a result, these suspects now face charges like shoplifting, petit theft, fraudulent returns, drug possession and trespassing.

While the identities of those arrested were not provided, FDLE officials said that the following law enforcement agencies joined in the effort:

    • Alachua County Sheriff’s Office

    • Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office

    • Leon County Sheriff’s Office

    • Marion County Sheriff’s Office

    • Seminole County Sheriff’s Office

    • Altamonte Springs Police Department

    • Gainesville Police Department

    • Orlando Police Department

    • Sanford Police Department

    • Sunrise Police Department

    • Tallahassee Police Department
