More cold weather will sweep across Australia’s south-east early this week, bringing rain, snow, and strong winds.

Data firm Weatherzone reports a cold front would bring strong winds today to South Australia, with gusts of 50km/hr to 75 km/hr in Adelaide and the Mount Lofty Ranges.

Victoria, meanwhile, can expect gusts between 70km/hr to 85km/hr, peaking at nearly 90km/hr in both Victoria and Tasmania.

But, Weatherzone said, Melbourne will see relatively calmer highs of 60km/hr to 75km/hr.

Similar weather patterns are expected to continue tomorrow in Victoria, Tasmania, and south-east New South Wales, “where the mountainous regions might still see wind gusts close to 85 km/hr.”

Weatherzone reported showers would “sweep through” most districts, with some isolated thunderstorms contributing to local totals of 20mm to 50mm.

Snow has been forecast for the alpine regions late Monday night, with falls of 10cm to 15cm were expected by late Tuesday or early Wednesday.

“These winds might create temporary white-out conditions and reduced visibility, making it an uncomfortable day for skiers, although the fresh snow will maintain a solid base for the ski resorts,” stated Weatherzone.

“By mid-week, a high-pressure ridge will move in from the west, gradually calming the winds and bringing sunnier, quieter days through to Saturday, perfect for enjoying the fresh snow once the situation stabilizes.”
