The vehicle was allegedly observed travelling at more than 100km/h in a 60km/h zone. Police subsequently pursued the vehicle, and say when they tried to speak with the driver after he pulled into a driveway, he resisted arrest and assaulted an officer. According to police, the driver tried to kick an officer.

The man faces a range of charges including failing to comply with direction, drink driving, misuse of a motor vehicle, and aggravated assault.

The driver told 9News he plans to fight the charges against him when he faces court next month. His car has been impounded for 28 days.

The incident has drawn reactions from local residents.

“There’s kids over here. Anyone could have been killed by that. It’s just not on anymore,” Gerardine said.

Another neighbour, Corey Hanson, said, “We just heard some screaming, came out front and there was a police car in my driveway and about seven or eight police cars lined up along the street”.

The investigation is ongoing.
