WASHINGTON (The Hill) — President Trump expressed concerns on Thursday regarding the financial impact of federal holidays, coinciding with Juneteenth, which is the latest holiday added to the U.S. calendar.

“There are too many holidays where people aren’t working. It’s costing our country billions of dollars due to business closures,” the president stated in a Truth Social post.

“The workers don’t want it either,” he added.

Government employees are traditionally given the day off on federal holidays while receiving pay.

Juneteenth, established to commemorate the liberation of enslaved Black Americans, was declared a federal holiday in 2021 by former President Biden.

“Soon we’ll end up having a holiday for every once working day of the year. It must change if we are going to, MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!” Trump wrote on Thursday.

The president did not participate in any Juneteenth events or celebrations.

Biden, while in office, hosted a celebratory concert on the South Lawn with famous Black performers and invited a range of elected officials to attend the formal gathering.

This year, the former president participated in a commemorative event in Galveston, Texas.
