A man allegedly fatally shot his parents in two different counties before killing himself after shooting a deputy and a dog, authorities said.
Fox 7 Austin conveyed that the Texas Department of Public Safety conducted a welfare check at about 8:30 p.m. on Saturday in the 11700 block of Hillbrook in Harris County. Officers discovered a woman who had died from a gunshot wound.
The Department of Public Safety reached out to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office. Investigators later linked the death to another incident approximately 90 miles away in Leon County. The deceased woman was identified as the suspect’s mother.
In Leon County, the suspect was reported to have shot and killed a man, believed to be his father. As officers tried to enter the home, the suspect shot a deputy and a dog, before turning the gun on himself.
Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said the deputy was taken to a hospital and is expected to survive. The dog died at the scene.
Investigations are ongoing. The Harris County Sheriff’s Office is handling the case in Harris County, while Texas DPS is leading the investigation in Leon County.
