Karen Read's lawyers identify exact moment prosecution 'lost the case' in murder trial

Karen Read’s legal team disclosed a pivotal moment in the trial that they believe damaged special prosecutor Hank Brennan’s credibility with the jury.

“Right away, I thought, ‘This is where he lost the case,'” remarked Read’s attorney David Yannetti during a discussion with Canadian lawyer and podcaster Ian Runkle. “It felt like an immense advantage for us. I didn’t focus on whether it was deliberate, accidental, or who was aware. The situation looked very unfavorable for them, and it gave Alan [Jackson] the chance in his closing argument to highlight numerous questionable aspects.”

Yannetti referred to an error Brennan committed while questioning defense expert Dr. Daniel Wolfe about the damage to the victim’s sweatshirt, which had been caused by a technician at the Massachusetts State Police Crime Lab.

Another juror, speaking with local WCVB-TV over the weekend, said she had gone into the case with an open mind but was leaning toward a guilty verdict before changing her mind over four days of deliberations.

“We’ve got a great democracy, and I am hopeful that the great people of this country that I love will take action, exercise the right to vote, stand up, be heard, and cause reform to be made,” Alessi added.

“And do it in a constructive way, a peaceful way, but an aggressive way.”
