SAVANNAH, Ga. () — Making history as the first African American and first female mayor of College Park, Georgia, Bianca Motley Broom has now taken on the role of president of the Georgia Municipal Association (GMA). This was announced on Sunday at the Savannah Convention Center.
The GMA, which represents all 537 cities in Georgia, offers leadership, advocacy, and educational services. Organizers highlight that Broom’s election is a significant milestone for both College Park and municipal leadership throughout the state.
GMA CEO and executive director Larry Hanson shared with News 3 the importance of bringing city representatives together for such meetings. “They gain insights and strategies they can bring back to their communities, enhancing the quality of life for residents through improved policies and programs. Whether it’s literacy initiatives or workforce development, these gatherings help cities tackle today’s challenges head-on, as public service is particularly demanding right now.”
