JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (WJHL) — Two people were arrested following an alleged shooting in downtown Johnson City early Sunday morning.
The Johnson City Police Department (JCPD) issued a news release indicating that 911 dispatch received reports of shots being fired at the Cherry Street parking lot at approximately 3:20 a.m. on Sunday.
According to the release, officers arrived at the scene and arrested two suspects. Morland Whitely, 18, from Johnson City, was charged with two counts of aggravated assault and reckless endangerment. Drake Blackburn, 18, from Jonesborough, faced charges of being an accessory after the fact, as stated in the release.
“The investigation revealed that a verbal argument led to gunfire,” the release states.
The JCPD reported that two individuals sustained gunshot injuries, with one person receiving treatment at the scene and the other being taken to a local hospital. The identities of these individuals were not disclosed.
The investigation into the shooting remains ongoing, according to police.
