The Florida Highway Patrol stated that the cause remains under investigation, but a pickup truck driver veered into the emergency lane, colliding with a box truck.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A Jacksonville resident tragically lost his life following a crash with a stopped box truck on the Buckman Bridge early Monday morning, as reported by the Florida Highway Patrol.

Authorities reported that at approximately 6:04 a.m., a 28-year-old male was traveling south on I-295 in a pickup truck in the left lane over the Buckman Bridge. Concurrently, a box truck was stationary in the left emergency lane.

FHP said “for reasons still under investigation,” the driver of the pickup truck entered the emergency lane and crashed into the box truck.

The pickup truck driver was pronounced dead on the scene, troopers said.

The driver of the box truck, a 43-year-old Tampa man, was not injured in the crash.

The crash shut down all southbound lanes on the bridge for several hours Monday morning, causing major traffic backups in the area. As of 11 a.m., all lanes remained closed.
