AN innocent household item could be putting tens of thousands of children at risk of grave injury or even death.

The government has announced an immediate recall of specific vitamin products distributed over the last six years, highlighting the “risk of fatal poisoning” in children.

The supplements were sold at retailers such as Walmart, Amazon, and Target, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said.

iHerb has withdrawn its California Gold Nutrition Daily Prenatal Multi, Ultamins Women’s Multivitamin, and Ultamins Women’s 50+ Multivitamin as of June 26.

The women’s vitamins all contain iron, which need to be in child-safe packaging due to risks of poisoning.

Iron poisoning in children can affect the heart, liver, and lungs, according to Medscape

The bottles and blister packs lack child-resistant features, according to the government agency, raising concerns about the potential for lethal poisoning should young children ingest them.

The recall affected 60,000 units sold between January 2019 and April 2025.

Consumers were urged to put recalled bottles out of reach of children and reach out to iHerb for refunds. The company is also reaching out to all known purchasers directly.

No injuries have been reported, according to the commission. IHerb did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

NATIONWIDE RECALLS

Recalls are affecting multiple industries across the country.

Over 143,000 pounds of bologna were just recalled after the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service found that various products contained meat that were not on the label.

The agency said that a hotline call tipped them off, leading to an investigation.

“FSIS is concerned that the products may be in consumers’ refrigerators and freezers,” it wrote.

“Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. Restaurants and institutions are urged not to serve these products.”

The bologna products, made between March 20 and June 20, should be thrown away or returned.

FULL LIST OF RECALLED VITAMINS

The vitamin compani iHerb has recalled thousands of batches of vitamins sold at Walmart, Amazon, and Target from 2019 to 2025. See the full list of recalled items and batch codes below:

  • Daily Prenatal Multi: 2307050A, 2404096A, and 2411100A
  • Ultamins Women’s Multivitamin: V0532 and V0533

Family Tree Bologna Veal, Babushka’s Recipe Chicken Bologna, Fancy Bologna, Gaisers Russian Brand Doktorskaya Bologna, Gaisers Turkey Bologna and Chicken Bologna Kypoyka all contained undeclared meat ranging from chicken to beef.

The meat recall is Class III, meaning that “the use of the product will not cause adverse health consequences or the risk is negligible.”

The agency reported no injuries from the meat mix-up.

Consumers were reportedly injured in another recall, however. A heated blanket sold by Walmart was nationally recalled after multiple fires and burn injuries were reported.

Over 8,500 units of the online-only product were affected, according to the CPSC.

The MaxKare electric blankets were sold on Walmart’s website between June 2021 to November 2024.

The item had a reported 34 incidents of overheating, three burn injury reports and two reports of the blankets catching on fire.

“Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled blankets and contact Yumo for instructions on how to properly dispose of the blankets,” the safety commission wrote.
