The Buccaneers Season 2 Episode 3 “Get Her Out” introduces a new hottie to the Apple TV+ show and he ought to look awfully familiar to period drama fans.

Greg Wise — famous for being Kate Winslet’s Mr. Willoughby in Sense & Sensibility, Emma Thompson’s real-life husband, and the original BBC version of Guy Thwarte — makes his Buccaneers (2023) debut as Reede Robinson.

It turns out he’s not just the dashing dad of Hector Robinson (Jacob Ifan), but also the long-lost love of the Dowager Duchess of Tintagel (Amelia Bullmore).

**Spoilers for The Buccaneers Season 2 Episode 3 “Get Her Out,” now streaming on Apple TV+**

In The Buccaneers Season 2 Episode 3, Nan (Kristine Frøseth) and Theo (Guy Remmers) throw a lavish masquerade ball at Tintagel to celebrate the birthday of Lizzie Elmsworth (Aubri Ibrag). Real talk: this might be my favorite Buccaneers ball to date. Not only is everyone dressed like fairies from A Midsummer Night’s Dream, but it also features what might be the most squee-inspiring dance scene I’ve seen onscreen in ages.

I’m, of course, talking about the Dowager Duchess and Reede Robinson dancing to Chappell Roan’s “Good Luck Babe!”

“When we were talking about Season 2, one of the things we wanted to explore was a love story for the Dowager,” Buccaneers creator, writer, and executive producer Katherine Jakeways told DECIDER. “We all love Amelia and we love the Dowager and we loved the way that her character has evolved.”

“Because Nan has started Season 2 choosing being a Duchess over the love of her life…we thought how fascinating if it turned out that the Dowager had also made a similar choice when she was a similar age to Nan,” Jakeways explained. “She had chosen the establishment and chosen to be a Duchess over her own true love. It’s her version of Guy Thwarte.”

As soon as Reede reunites with his Blanche, there’s a surge of electricity in the air. Their chemistry is intoxicating. Oh, and they get to dance to Chappell Roan’s wistful power ballad, “Good Luck, Babe!”

“We were so delighted when that [song] was put over [the scene] because suddenly they feel young again,” Jakeways said. “These characters who are older than all of our other characters suddenly have this kind of moment of feeling that youthful excitement and joy and love, which we’ve seen all the other characters have…that just felt so perfect.”

Something that also felt “perfect”? Casting the original Guy Thwarte from the 1995 version of The Buccaneers as Reede Robinson.

“At some stage during the development of Season 2 we said, ‘Oh god, can you imagine if we could get Greg Wise to play it?’” Jakeways said. “He was so lovely about being enthusiastic about the character and the show and wanting to come in. And he and Amelia are so good together.”

The Buccaneers executive producer Beth Willis gushed even more about Wise: “He was an absolute delight and he was as puppyish and as gorgeous now as he was when he was Guy Thwarte in the original or, indeed, in Sense and Sensibility. He had just so much energy and enthusiasm and lust for life.”

“I feel like everyone who’s seen [Season 2] is so fallen for him and the Dowager,” The Buccaneers executive producer Joe Innes added. “They feel like they’ve emerged as real frontrunners. We need to get a couple name for them.”

“Yeah, what would it be?” Jakeways said. “She’s called Blanche and he’s called Reede.”

“Dowreede?” Innes suggested. “Dowreede!”

All hail “Dowreede,” our new favorite Buccaneers ‘ship.
