Badalov was married with two children.

Investigators were reportedly working at the scene to understand the circumstances of his fall.

Kremlin media cited a source as saying: “Badalov’s body was found under the windows of an [apartment building] on Rublevskoye Highway.”

Badalov was vice-president of Transneft – Russia’s state oil pipeline operator.

The firm is headed up by former KGB spy, Nikolai Tokarev, 74, who served alongside Putin in Germany during the Cold War.

In the past three years, as Putin began preparing for his Ukraine invasion, there has been a series of unexplained deaths among executives connected to Russia’s oil and gas sectors.

These are often recorded as suicides – but many cases have raised cries of foul play.
