KINGSPORT, Tenn. (WJHL) — Kingsport hosted its annual Red, White and Boom celebration on Saturday.

The Model City delighted in food and snacks from Baked & Loaded, Jones Family Kettlecorn, and Opie’s Pizza Wagon, with drinks provided by Ethan & Nora’s Lemonade and Vintage Vixens.

The fireworks weren’t the only source of noise on Main Street; live music from Night Ranger, Rob Ickes & Trey Hensley, and Donnie & The Dry Heavers filled the air on the Cardinal Glass Industries Stage for the audience.

News Channel 11 questioned Emily Thompson, the director of Fun-Fest and Special Events for Visit Kingsport, about the city’s choice to hold its July 4th event on July 5th. She explained that the event is intended as a Saturday-night-only festivity.

“We are certainly packed down here on Main Street, as far as you can see, in all directions,” she said.

Thompson said organizers set up for the event for several hours and that they are grateful to “share the Kingsport spirit.” The event continues to grow in size and popularity every year.
