Colorado dentist in poisoning case suggests wife killed herself

() The murder trial of a Colorado dentist accused of killing his wife began Tuesday, and one defense attorney, Eric Faddis, feels the evidence in the case seems pretty overwhelming if proven correct.

“During the opening’s defense, it kind of hinted, sort of insinuated that perhaps Angela Craig was suicidal,” Faddis told “Banfield” on Tuesday. “And perhaps that is the reason she ultimately died, and not at the hands of a poisoning by her husband, James Craig.”

James Craig allegedly poisoned his wife, Angela Craig, with cyanide and tetrahydrozoline in her protein shakes two years ago. Craig had been married to Angela for 23 years. According to Denver Assistant District Attorney Ryan Brackley, Craig gave his wife the final dose of the poison during her final visit to a hospital, as doctors scrambled to figure out what was ailing her.

But according to Craig’s story, this was all part of his wife’s plan to make him look bad. Faddis says that was just a piece of his argument.

“He also apparently disclosed that she was taking opioids, perhaps had overdosed on opioids in the past, that she had suicidal ideation in the past, that this had been kind of a pattern for her,” he said. “That has not been proven in court, but these are the statements of the accused when he was interviewed.”

Faddis said it remains unclear whether the family’s six children are backing James. He acknowledged that the prosecutor said there will be a service dog present in court sometime soon, which usually signals a child will be testifying.

“That could mean that one or more of the children could be testifying against their dad,” Faddis said.

Faddis also pointed out that Craig is on his third attorney, which is a bit of a “peculiar development.”

“Usually, you don’t rotate through three defense attorneys in such a high-profile, nationally publicized case. He (Harvey Steinberg) has filed a motion to withdraw on the day the trial was set to begin, stating the course of action could be fraudulent or criminal. The second attorney (Robert Werking) was recently charged with arson, so he had to withdraw from the case.”

In addition, a picture of Angela Craig looking sickly that Craig allegedly sent to his mistress was also spotlighted in court.
