Topline

President Donald Trump announced that he has directed Attorney General Pam Bondi to release grand jury testimony in the Jeffrey Epstein case on Thursday night, shortly after he threatened to sue the Wall Street Journal and its owner, Rupert Murdoch, over what he claimed was a “FAKE” report alleging that “bawdy” letter sent to Epstein on his 50th Birthday in 2003 bore his name and signature.

Key Facts

In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump wrote: “Based on the ridiculous amount of publicity given to Jeffrey Epstein, I have asked Attorney General Pam Bondi to produce any and all pertinent Grand Jury testimony, subject to Court approval.”

The president claimed that the controversy surrounding the Epstein issue was a “SCAM, perpetuated by the Democrats,” and added that this “should end, right now!”

Bondi responded to this by tweeting: “President Trump—we are ready to move the court tomorrow to unseal the grand jury transcripts.”

Trump’s announcement came just a short while after issuing a statement that firmly dismissed a Wall Street Journal report that alleged that a sexually suggestive letter gifted to Epstein for his 50th birthday in 2003—with a drawing of a naked woman—bore the president’s name and signature.

A statement issued on Truth Social said, “The Wall Street Journal, and Rupert Murdoch, personally, were warned directly” by the president that this “supposed letter… was a FAKE and, if they print it, they will be sued.”

The statement described the report as “a false, malicious, and defamatory” and said Trump “will be suing The Wall Street Journal, NewsCorp, and Mr. Murdoch, shortly.”

What Has Trump Himself Said About The Wsj Report?

In a follow-up Truth Social post, Trump addressed the allegations in the report directly and wrote: “The Wall Street Journal printed a FAKE letter, supposedly to Epstein. These are not my words, not the way I talk. Also, I don’t draw pictures. I told Rupert Murdoch it was a Scam, that he shouldn’t print this Fake Story. But he did, and now I’m going to sue his ass off, and that of his third rate newspaper.”

How Have Trump’s Aides And Supporters Reacted?

In a post on X, Vice President JD Vance reacted to the report, saying: “Forgive my language but this story is complete and utter bullshit. The WSJ should be ashamed for publishing it. Where is this letter? Would you be shocked to learn they never showed it to us before publishing it? Does anyone honestly believe this sounds like Donald Trump?” Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt tweeted: “The Wall Street Journal published a hatchet job article with a FAKE ‘birthday letter’ that is supposedly from 2003…The WSJ refused to show us the letter and conceded they don’t even have it in their possession when we asked them to verify the alleged document they’re basing their ENTIRE fake story on.” Even billionaire Elon Musk, who has been attacking the president and his administration over their handling of the Epstein case, questioned the veracity of the report on X and wrote: “It really doesn’t sound like something Trump would say tbh.”
