Ghislaine Maxwell moved to Texas prison camp

Maxwell’s attorney confirmed the move, but declined to comment on why she was relocated.

WASHINGTON — Ghislaine Maxwell, who dated Jeffrey Epstein in the past, has been relocated from a federal facility in Florida to a prison camp in Texas. This transfer comes amid renewed public interest in her criminal case.

The federal Bureau of Prisons announced on Friday that Maxwell was moved to Bryan, Texas, but did not provide details regarding the transfer. Her lawyer also acknowledged the move but chose not to elaborate on the reasons behind it.

In 2021, Maxwell was found guilty of aiding Epstein in the sexual exploitation of underage girls and received a 20-year prison sentence. She had been housed in a low-security prison in Tallahassee, Florida before being transferred to the Texas camp, which also accommodates inmates like Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes and Jen Shah from “The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City.”

Minimum-security federal prison camps house inmates the Bureau of Prisons considers to be the lowest security risk. Some don’t even have fences.

Prison camps are typically designed with minimal security to facilitate ease of operations and allow inmates responsible for tasks such as landscaping and maintenance to carry out their duties without needing to frequently report to a main facility.

Maxwell’s case has increasingly captured public interest after the Justice Department announced last month that no additional documentation from the Epstein sex trafficking inquiry would be disclosed.

In response, government officials have aimed to demonstrate a commitment to transparency in the case, including seeking court permission to unseal grand jury transcripts.

Maxwell was interviewed at a Florida courthouse over two days last week by Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche.

The House Oversight Committee has separately said that it wants to speak with Maxwell. Her lawyers said this week that she would be open to an interview but only if the panel were to give her immunity from prosecution for anything she said.
