DECATUR, Ill. (WCIA) — In the wake of another shooting incident, a Decatur resident has expressed that the frequency of such violence has become distressingly routine to the extent where she is hardly surprised anymore by gunfire.

A 25-year-old man was shot on Tuesday in Decatur. It happened near West Decatur and Boyd Streets.

According to Decatur police, a man was shot in the chest and found lying in the street around 6 p.m. The incident unfolded as a young man on a dirt bike was reportedly fired upon by three men in an old white pickup truck using a handgun.

WCIA talked with one person living in the area who said she ended up with three bullet holes in her house after it was all over.

“I heard those bullets clearly, especially the ones that hit my house. I was sitting in the living room, and thought, ‘What on earth?’ My head was down, but I glanced and saw,” recalled a Decatur community member, who requested to remain anonymous.

But that isn’t the only shooting recently in Decatur.

Previously, on July 31, officers found a man with multiple gunshot injuries at North Woodford and East Walnut streets, prompting his transport to the hospital for treatment. This was followed by another incident on Aug. 2, when a 30-year-old man was hospitalized after a shooting at West Grand Avenue and North Church Street.

Police reported that in the latest shooting, the victim remains in stable condition at the hospital. The investigation is ongoing and no arrests have been made. The cause of the shooting is still unknown. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Decatur Police Department at 217-424-2711.
