A New York woman found dead aboard a boat in Suffolk County August 5 has been identified as a Manhattan designer.

The Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office reported that police responded to a call at the Montauk Yacht Club, located on Star Island Road, around midnight on Tuesday. The call was about an “unconscious” woman found on a docked boat.

Despite attempts by “good Samaritans” to revive her using CPR, their efforts were not successful.

Upon arrival, first responders declared that the woman, identified as 33-year-old Martha Nolan-O’Slatarra, had passed away at the scene. Initial examinations did not clearly establish the cause of her death.

NBC News stated that Nolan-O’Slatarra was the founder of the fashion brand East x East and served as the director of operations at K IV Capital Management in New York.

Originally from Ireland, Nolan-O’Slatarra told the Irish Independent in 2024 that she moved to New York to follow her ambitions.

“I was the small town girl who needed to get out to achieve her big dreams,” she said.

“I always knew I aspired for success, motivated by money and business. I understood that the fashion industry is demanding and achieving success would take time.”

She launched East x East in the Hamptons in 2023, according to the New York Post.

Residents in the area described Nolan-O’Slatarra as kind and welcoming.

A resident shared with the Post that, “She was well-known in the community. Very approachable, always smiling,” and added, “This event will surely spark many discussions.”

Meanwhile, some members of the yacht club told the Post that they heard screaming coming from the docks late Monday night.

Crime scene investigators were reportedly at the scene throughout the night Monday, along with a Suffolk County Crime Laboratory van.

Suffolk County Police Homicide Squad detectives are currently investigating the case, according to the sheriff’s office.

The story is developing. Check back for updates.
