Springfield firefighters save injured person in water rescue

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WCIA) — An injured person was rescued from the Lake Springfield Friday afternoon by Springfield firefighters.

In a 1:06 p.m. Facebook post, Springfield Fire Local 37 announced that they were deploying crews to respond to a water rescue incident in the 1900 block of W Lake Shore Drive, located right on Lake Springfield. The department dispatched four engines and one truck to the location.

Officials later provided an update, indicating that dispatch had alerted the crews about a reported injury in the water, but clarified there was no risk of drowning. During the rescue operation, emergency responders utilized a life jacket to assist the individual before they were safely removed from the water by a rescue boat and then taken by ambulance to Lindsay Bridge for further medical care.
