() President Donald Trump said he’s considering reclassifying marijuana as a less dangerous drug.

Speaking from the White House on Monday, Trump said his administration would make a decision on the reclassification over the next few weeks.

“Hopefully that determination will be the right one. It’s a very complicated subject,” Trump said.

The Justice Department under former President Joe Biden also proposed reclassifying the drug.

The Wall Street Journal previously reported that Trump discussed the move to reclassify marijuana during a fundraising dinner at his New Jersey golf club earlier this month.

Marijuana is currently a Schedule I drug, a group classified by the Drug Enforcement Administration as those with no currently accepted medical use and a high potential for abuse. Other Schedule I drugs include heroin and LSD.

If the change is approved, marijuana would be reclassified as a Schedule III drug, which includes those with a moderate to low potential for physical and psychological dependence. Ketamine and anabolic steroids are among Schedule III drugs.
