A Clay County grand jury has officially charged Trevor Lee, 14, with two counts of first-degree murder for the deaths of his parents.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The teenager, accused of the tragic shooting of his parents at their Middleburg residence last week, is currently facing first-degree murder charges.

The State Attorney’s Office for the Fourth Judicial Circuit announced that a Clay County grand jury indicted 14-year-old Trevor Lee on two counts of first-degree murder in connection with the deaths of his parents.

A spokesperson for the State Attorney’s Office confirmed Lee will be charged as an adult.

The incident took place on Aug. 4, when the Clay County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence at Silver Point and County Road 220 in Middleburg, where they discovered 44-year-old David Lee and 45-year-old Brandi Smith deceased.

The police report said Lee and Smith were found in their bedroom with multiple gunshot wounds and several spent shell casings were found in the room.

According to the sheriff’s office, the preliminary investigation revealed an argument occurred between Lee and his parents the night prior, which escalated when the teen allegedly used a firearm to fatally shoot them before leaving it at the scene.

Following the event, Clay County Sheriff Michelle Cook stated that Lee called 911, admitting to the shootings, and later proceeded to walk to a nearby church. Shortly thereafter, Lee was apprehended by authorities.

Lee’s next court appearance is scheduled for 9 a.m. Aug. 19 in Clay County.

The case will be prosecuted by Assistant State Attorneys Pam Hazel, Ashley Terry and Jamie Cona.
