This Is What Inspires Barack Obama: Running From Your Job and Subverting Democracy

As previously mentioned, Democratic lawmakers from Texas left the state to disrupt a quorum and obstruct a vote on a redistricting proposal. It’s unlikely that such actions were anticipated in John F. Kennedy’s notable 1955 book, “Profiles in Courage.”

But to a more recent former president, this kind of anti-Democratic action is somehow uplifting:

According to reports, former President Barack Obama applauded the Texas Democratic lawmakers for their decision to leave the state in an effort to prevent a vote on the redistricting bill, hailing their actions as “inspiring.”

Texas state Representative Gene Wu, chairman of the Texas House Democratic Caucus, expressed gratitude on X on Thursday, acknowledging the former president’s support during a Zoom meeting with the legislators.

Wu said the Democrats were “encouraged” by Obama’s words and “remain committed to fighting for democracy, in Texas & across the country.”

This is the work that Barack Obama is commending—the act of leaving their responsibilities behind and escaping to other states in haste. Or, essentially, “disrupting democracy in an attempt to preserve it.”
