Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Authorities have charged Jaishun Mikal Darrien Turner, 24, of Reddick, along with two juveniles from Marion County, Lynden Maysonet, 14, and Kameryn Nehemiah Copeland, 16, with armed robbery and aggravated battery following a shooting incident on July 30 at the Crossing at Santa Fe Apartments.

On July 30, around 8 p.m., Alachua County Sheriff’s Deputies arrived at the Crossing at Santa Fe (3205 NW 83rd Street) and discovered blood stains near two apartment entrances. With the victim’s permission to search his apartment, deputies noted a strong odor of burnt marijuana and significant blood traces, including two bloody handprints on the carpet. They located the victim’s phone under an overturned chair after hearing it ring. A suitcase by the door contained a large bag of marijuana, and deputies reportedly found scattered marijuana and unrolled blunts throughout the apartment, along with baggies and scales.

In an interview at the hospital, the victim recounted being assaulted by three males who had been staying at his apartment; he identified two as his roommate’s cousins and the third as someone he called “Greenlight Sammy.” He referred to the juveniles as “Landon or LA” and “Spook.”

According to the victim, Greenlight Sammy initiated the attack, and when he tried to defend himself, the other two assisted; they allegedly believed he kept a large amount of cash and marijuana in his safe. All three suspects were armed, and during the struggle, one of the juveniles instructed, “Shoot him,” prompting the victim to cease resisting, after which they reportedly pistol-whipped him.

The suspects allegedly left the victim on the floor and stole his safe, approximately $40, and a cell phone. The victim reported an AirTag was inside the safe and instructed deputies on tracking it using the phone they recovered from under the chair. The AirTag later turned up beside I-75, just north of Ocala, but the safe remained unlocated; deputies suspect the offenders accessed the safe, discovered the AirTag, and discarded it.

On July 31, authorities learned the juveniles were indeed related to the victim’s roommate and had been staying at the apartment for ten days. However, the roommate claimed ignorance of his cousins’ last names; the juveniles were reportedly “on the run” from Marion County, with the roommate professing no knowledge of their reasons for fleeing.

Detectives determined that “Greenlight Sammy” is Turner, “Landon” is Maysonet, and “Spook” is Copeland. The victim reportedly picked all three out of photo line-ups.

On August 1, an officer from the Marion County Department of Juvenile Justice called Alachua County Sheriff’s Office to report that Maysonet and Copeland had cut off their ankle monitors and were believed to be staying with the victim’s roommate.

All three suspects have been charged with armed robbery and aggravated battery, and Turner has also been charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Turner has two convictions for possession of more than 20 grams of marijuana, and charges of unlawful possession of a firearm were dropped in both of those cases (2018 and 2022); charges of domestic battery and animal cruelty were also dropped in 2022. The warrant for Turner’s arrest recommended holding him without bail pending a hearing on a motion from the State Attorney’s office to hold him without bail until trial; if the judge denies the motion, bail will be set at that hearing.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
