A man has been charged with four counts of rape by Nashville police after witnesses reported seeing him assaulting an unconscious woman near a church on Thursday.
The Metro Nashville Police Department swiftly took the woman to a nearby hospital following the incident, but she was pronounced dead upon arrival. The suspect has been identified as 39-year-old Mohamed Mohamed.
“Just past 9:30 p.m., a Nashville Fire Department team driving along Nolensville Pike to attend a call observed a sexual assault occurring on a sidewalk fronting the church. They reversed direction and sounded their siren,” the MNPD explained in a report.
“When they stopped at the scene, Mohamed was trying to pull up the unconscious woman’s pants. The fire crew apprehended Mohamed, alerted the police, and provided assistance to the victim,” the report detailed.

Police say Mohamed Mohamed was witnessed sexually assaulting a woman outside Nashville Life Church.
“The suspect engaged in physical contact with the victim as she faded in and out of consciousness, attempting to fend him off. Eventually, he moved her from the steps to the ground, where he continuously sexually assaulted her,” it further described.
Police say Mohamed refused to be interviewed after being taken into custody. His bond has been set at $300,000.
As of Friday, the Medical Examiner was still awaiting the results of toxicology testing in order to determine the victim’s cause of death.
Authorities have identified the victim as a 34-year-old woman, suspected to be experiencing homelessness. Her identity remains undisclosed as efforts are still ongoing to inform her family via a police chaplain.
