BURKE COUNTY, Ga ()- In Burke County, a woman is currently incarcerated following her arrest on Sunday, facing charges of first-degree cruelty to children. She is alleged to have regularly abused her 14-year-old grandson.

The Burke County sheriff’s Office was called to Burke County High School Friday afternoon for a child abuse complaint.

The teenager confided in a counselor and informed authorities that his grandmother, Patricia Green, who works as a nurse at Doctors Hospital, assaulted him nearly every night.

The police report details that officers observed multiple injuries on the teen, such as a swollen lip, a cut on his head, and bruises on his left arm. He informed them that the head wound resulted from being struck with a dustpan.

The teenager further explained to the officers that his grandmother becomes violent after consuming alcohol. He mentioned that although his grandfather attempts to intervene, Green becomes aggressive towards him as well. She reportedly calls the police whenever he tries to protect himself or the teenager. The records show that the grandfather has been arrested in the past.

Investigators visited the home and spoke with the grandfather, who confirmed the teen’s account. He described his wife as a frequent heavy drinker, frustrated by the lack of child support for the teen, thus directing her anger towards him. The grandparents hold full custody of the boy. The grandfather also noted that another male juvenile resides in the home, but she does not mistreat him.

The grandfather urged the teen to speak to a counselor at school about the situation, because he didn’t feel he was able to help him.

He agreed to turn his wife in to law enforcement and not tell her they were aware of the situation, appreciating that an arrest would be made.
