Labubu Alert: Imitation Dolls Called Lafufus are a Choking Risk and Potentially Dangerous for Children, Warns US Consumer Product Safety Commission

Counterfeit versions, sometimes referred to as ‘Lafufus,’ can break apart easily, releasing pieces that can become choking hazards

In Washington D.C., officials have cautioned the public about counterfeit Labubu dolls, which are a significant risk for children and could potentially be life-threatening.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced on Monday that these imitations, occasionally called “Lafufu,” are small enough to be swallowed, causing a choking hazard.

They are sold as plush figures and keychains.

The CPSC said it received reports of fake Labubu dolls that break apart easily, releasing small pieces that can become choking hazards.

CPSC investigators said they have identified multiple shipments of the lookalikes attempting to enter the U.S. from China.

“These counterfeit Labubu dolls are hazardous, prohibited, and should not be found in American households,” stated CPSC Acting Chairman Peter A. Feldman. “No parent should worry about a toy preventing their child from breathing. Ensure your children’s safety by purchasing only from trustworthy retailers.”

The agency said for consumers not to buy the faux toys and to stop using them immediately.

Authentic Pop Mart Labubu dolls include a holographic Pop Mart sticker, a scannable QR code directing to the official Pop Mart website, and on newer models, a discreet UV stamp on one foot.
