The 34-year-old spent most of his career with the Washington Wizards, but also played for the Houston Rockets and Los Angeles Clippers.

John Wall is retiring after 11 NBA seasons.

Wall, 34, spent the majority of his NBA journey with the Washington Wizards, who selected him as the top pick in the 2010 draft from Kentucky. Throughout his career, the five-time All-Star point guard maintained impressive averages of 18.7 points and 8.9 assists per game.

“Today, I’m stepping away from the court, but not leaving the game behind,” Wall announced through a social media post on Tuesday. “Basketball will forever be part of my life, and new opportunities are on the horizon. I feel that it’s time to embrace my next chapter with confidence.”

While Wall’s primary tenure was with the Wizards, he also had stints with the Houston Rockets and Los Angeles Clippers. His standout season came in 2016-17 when he averaged 23.1 points and 10.7 assists, earning a spot on the All-NBA third team.

Recognized as one of the swiftest and most athletic point guards in his prime, Wall was the 2014 Slam Dunk Contest winner. He was also a formidable defender, making the All-Defensive second team in 2015.

The latter half of Wall’s career was hindered by injuries, which prevented him from playing more than half the games in any of the last six seasons, and he didn’t participate in the past two years.
