The Cincinnati police union has expressed strong disapproval of a legal case filed against a victim involved in last month’s widely shared violent incident, criticizing the man’s perceived involvement in the hostilities.
Earlier this week, the Cincinnati Police Department informed Fox News Digital that a 45-year-old White male was arrested in connection with the downtown assault. However, they have not revealed his name because he is considered a victim in the attack and is, hence, protected by Marsy’s Law, which restricts the disclosure of his identity by authorities.
In a related development, Gregory Wright, 32, faces accusations of specifically targeting an individual who had fallen during the assault, forcibly removing a chain from the victim’s neck. He faces charges of aggravated rioting and aggravated robbery.
According to the Hamilton County Prosecutor’s Office, Patrick Rosemond, 38, Jermaine Matthews, 39, Montianez Merriweather, 34, DeKyra Vernon, 24, Dominique Kittle, 37, and Aisha Devaughn, 25, face multiple charges including three counts each of alleged felonious assault, three counts of assault, and two counts of aggravated rioting.
Authorities also reported the arrest of Gregory Wright, aged 32, the previous week. Wright was officially charged with alleged aggravated rioting and aggravated robbery on Thursday morning during his virtual arraignment in the Hamilton County Jail.
According to court documents, Wright, who is a convicted heroin trafficker with a lengthy criminal record, “did by force rip the necklace off the victim while he was being assaulted by four or more co-defendants, attempting to cause serious physical harm.”
On Thursday, an Ohio judge lowered Wright’s bond from $100,000 to $50,000, but he is only required to pay 10% – or $5,000 – to be released.
Wright’s attorney did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.
