() Erik and Lyle Menendez’s family say they are disappointed in the board’s decision after Erik was denied parole.

“While we respect the decision, today’s outcome was certainly disappointing and not what we had hoped for. However, our confidence in Erik remains steadfast, and we are sure he will handle the Board’s recommendation with grace. His remorse, personal growth, and the positive influence he’s had on others are testament to his character. We will continue to support him and remain hopeful that he will be able to return home soon,” wrote Erik and Lyle Menendez’s family.

“Tomorrow, our focus will shift to Lyle’s hearing. Although it is undeniably challenging, we remain cautiously optimistic and hopeful that the commissioner will recognize in Lyle what many others have: a man who has accepted responsibility, transformed his life, and is prepared to return home.”

Erik presented his case to the California Board of Parole on Thursday, explaining why he should be released from prison for the infamous 1989 shotgun murder of his parents.

Lyle will do the same on Friday, and it’s possible that he could be freed while Erik remains in prison.

According to state law, the final decision over parole cases in California rests with Gov. Gavin Newsom, presenting an additional challenge for the brothers, who have spent thirty years in prison.
