handwritten grievance by Bryan Kohberger

Bryan Kohberger, who was found guilty of killing four college students in Idaho in 2022, has expressed dissatisfaction with his meals, among other issues, during his time in an Idaho prison.

“I have on several occasions, not received all items of food on my tray,” Kohberger wrote in a July 31 complaint form obtained by .

Kohberger adheres to a vegan diet, avoiding all animal products like meat, eggs, and dairy. In his complaint, he mentioned that he has not been provided with any vegan alternatives on his food tray.

“I bring this up during meal service but haven’t received any substitutes. The kitchen isn’t even notified. The policy book states items missing at service will be replaced if pointed out. I want those replacements without exception,” Kohberger explained.

He said the “nutritional standard is not being upheld unless I receive my full tray.”

Sheriff Richard Skiles mentioned that the Latah County Jail, where Kohberger was previously held, would offer vegan meals. This situation was criticized by the father of one of the victims, who called Kohberger’s treatment “unprecedented.”

Bryan Kohberger complains of threats from inmates

Kohberger’s food complaint was one of many.

Kohberger initially filed a complaint on July 30, a week after his sentencing, claiming that other prisoners deliberately flooded their cells and subjected him to “constant verbal threats and harassment.” In a subsequent report on August 4, Kohberger reported threats of sexual assault.

Kohberger received a life sentence without the possibility of parole for the deadly stabbings of University of Idaho students Kaylee Goncalves, Madison Mogen, Xana Kernodle, and Ethan Chapin. He admitted to the murders weeks before his trial was due to begin, pleading guilty on July 2.

He is serving his sentence in the J-Block at the Idaho Maximum Security Institution.
