The Clay County Sheriff’s Office says that a road rage incident on County Road 220 led to the shooting in a Walmart parking lot.

MIDDLEBURG, Fla. — An individual has been taken into custody following a road rage incident that escalated into a shooting at a Walmart on Thursday evening, as reported by the Clay County Sheriff’s Office.

CCSO states that around 7 p.m., the suspect, David Lee Garcia, was involved in a road rage incident with the victim while driving on County Road 220.

Authorities state that the victim stopped at a nearby Walmart Neighborhood Market, situated at 2570 CR 220, where Garcia pursued them. Following a brief confrontation, Garcia discharged several shots towards the victim’s vehicle, hitting it and two adjacent cars.

The sheriff’s office said a child and an adult were inside one of the two vehicles struck by gunfire.

The initial victim had received “superficial” injuries, which Clay County Fire Rescue treated.

Garcia was interviewed by police and arrested for aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and shooting a firearm into an occupied conveyance.

“Violent acts, especially those that take place on or near roadways, will not be accepted in Clay County,” stated the sheriff’s office in a press release. “Driving is a privilege that carries the obligation to remain calm, composed, and considerate of others to ensure everyone arrives at their destination safely.”
