Immigration and Customs Enforcement has informed Kilmar Abrego Garcia’s legal team that he could be deported to Uganda after his release from a Tennessee jail, as reported by Fox News.

According to documents from ICE and the Department of Homeland Security reviewed by Fox News, ICE communicated to Abrego Garcia’s attorneys that he might be deported to Uganda within “no less than 72 hours” and is required to report to the ICE office in Baltimore on Monday.

This comes after Uganda reached a deal with the U.S. to accept third-party deportations.

Upon his release from a jail in Tennessee on Friday, U.S. Magistrate Judge Barbara Holmes ordered Abrego Garcia to remain under his brother’s supervision until his trial. He must use an electronic monitoring device, report to Pretrial Services in Maryland, and check in by 10 a.m. on Monday.

U.S. District Judge Paula Xinis in Maryland, who is handling Abrego Garcia’s civil case challenging his deportation, has directed federal authorities to provide his lawyers a 72-hour notice prior to initiating deportation processes, allowing time to file an appeal.

Abrego Garcia’s situation gained widespread attention this year when the Trump administration initially declined to return him from El Salvador, despite court admissions that his deportation was an “administrative error.”

His detention in the South American country sparked visits from U.S. lawmakers, notably Sen. Chris van Hollen, D-Md.

His release on Friday was met with public frustration by Trump administration officials.

Kristi Noem, Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, claimed Abrego Garcia is a criminal who broke immigration laws, labeling him a “monster” released by “activist liberal judges” following his release on Friday.

“We will not stop fighting till this Salvadoran man faces justice and is OUT of our country,” Noem wrote on X.
