Giuliani car accident not a targeted attack, spokesman says

A car accident in New Hampshire on Saturday night left former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani seriously injured, though a representative for the 81-year-old clarified it was not a deliberate attack.

According to Michael Ragusa, Giuliani’s spokesman and security head, the former mayor had pulled over to assist a woman involved in a domestic violence incident and had subsequently called the police. After the authorities arrived on the scene, Giuliani continued on in his rental car, which was later rear-ended at high speed on the highway.

“This incident was not premeditated,” Ragusa emphasized in response to initial claims on social media platform X. “We request that people honor Mayor Giuliani’s need for privacy as he recovers and avoid spreading baseless conspiracy theories.”

Giuliani was hospitalized with several injuries, such as “a fractured thoracic vertebrae,” various lacerations and bruises, along with injuries to his left arm and leg, stated Ragusa in an early announcement on Sunday.

At the time of the collision, Giuliani was a passenger in a rented Ford Bronco driven by his advisor, Ted Goodman. The vehicle was hit by a Honda HR-V driven by a 19-year-old woman, according to police reports.

Both vehicles hit the highway median and were “heavily damaged,” state police said.

The 19-year-old, Goodman and Giuliani were all treated at a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries, the agency said.

Police did not say whether Giuliani had assisted the reported domestic violence victim on the interstate.

No charges have been filed related to the crash as police continue to investigate.
