A Marvel costume designer who raped a woman after she put a banana skin in the ‘wrong bin’ has been jailed for 12 years.

Marvyn Marques, aged 38, initiated a horrifying assault after becoming furious when the victim disposed of a peel in the incorrect trash bin, later assaulting her again as a form of punishment.

The independent tailor, who mentions on LinkedIn that he was employed by Marvel Studios for over four years, was apprehended after a neighbor observed him wrestling with the frightened woman through a peephole.

The victim told police he would ring her constantly at work, wait for her outside shops and call her names.

In court, it was revealed that he seized her wrist, causing a sprain, and then dragged her into the bedroom, where he restrained her on the bed before sexually abusing her, stating, “This is what you need, don’t ever be disobedient.”

After the victim reported this, Marques barricaded himself in his flat.

Despite his denial of the accusations, Marques was convicted of three counts of rape, as well as charges related to coercive and controlling behavior, assault, and intentional strangulation.

Marvyn Marques, 38, who claims on LinkedIn to have worked for Marvel Studios for more than four years, launched the sickening attack after raging that his victim had put the peel in the wrong rubbish bin and later raped her again as punishment.

Marvyn Marques, 38, who touts on LinkedIn an employment history with Marvel Studios exceeding four years, perpetrated the repugnant assault after becoming enraged when the victim placed a peel in the wrong trash bin, subsequently assaulting her once more as a punitive measure.

Southwark Crown Court heard how neighbours witnessed Marques throwing objects at her in the communal areas of the block of flats.

He then started kicking her and dragged her to the hallway stairs and laughed as he hit her with wooden blanks.

After police were called, the Marques cowardly barricaded himself in his flat, during which his victim revealed his history of abuse towards her.

The court was informed about a separate incident where Marques flew into a rage after the victim consumed a banana and misplaced the peel, leading him to assault her again.

He grabbed her wrist, spraining it, before dragging her to the bedroom and pinning her to the bed.

Marques then raped her, telling her: ‘This is what you need, don’t ever be disobedient,’ jurors heard.

During this, Marques put his hands around her neck, which Judge Usha Karu added: ‘Her screams only excited you more’.

The victim told police he would ring her constantly at work, wait for her outside shops and insult her by calling her ‘disabled, crackerjack head, b**** and fat’

He gave no comment in police interviews.

Sentencing Marques, the judge told Marques that following the vile attack, the woman’s body ‘went into shock’.

‘You pulled her hair…when it had finished, she said she could barely walk,’ Judge Karu said.

‘She said that the rape, in her words, broke her. She said that the force was a ten on a scale of one to ten.’

The judge accused him of not taking ‘any responsibility for your offending and having shown no remorse’.

But she added: ‘A life sentence is not justified in this case.’

‘I find that you are dangerous and therefore pass an extended sentence.’

Marques, who was in court wearing a black coat, was jailed for 12 years with a five year extended licence.

He will serve up to two-thirds of the 12-year sentence. He was also issued a 20-year restraining order, meaning that he is not allowed to contact the victim by any means.
