Multiple machetes have been uncovered from an allegedly stolen car after police chased a group across Melbourne following an alleged armed home invasion.

Six men aged between 17 and 21 have been arrested after an aggravated home invasion in Rosebud, south-east of Melbourne, triggered a major police chase.

Police allege the six offenders, armed with two guns and a knife, forced their way into a home in Bilbul Avenue about 2.50am.

The two residents, a man and a woman, barricaded themselves in a bedroom while the armed thugs threatened them and demanded valuables, police said.

They were forced to hand over $1000 in cash and suffered minor injuries.

The six men then fled the scene in an allegedly stolen white Mercedes SUV, which police report was seen travelling 150km/h on the Peninsula Link near Moorooduc.

Police tried to stop the car but it allegedly sped away.

The same car then arrived on Ballantyne Street in Thornbury, before the group allegedly forced entry into another home.

Nobody was inside at the time.

Police pursued the car across multiple suburbs, including Hawthorn and Prahan, and ended up on the Monash freeway.

Four offenders then left the Mercedes and entered a waiting Mazda.

As the Mazda has tried to drive off, it then crashed into a trailer.

Police then arrested the six offenders, including three teenagers.

All six remain in custody and will be interviewed later today.

No charges have been laid.

Police allegedly found firearm components and ammunition in the possession of one of the arrested men.

Another four machetes and a sword were allegedly located in the Mazda.

“Last night was the ultimate example of how Operation Trinity units work hand in hand across our city each night,” said Acting Commander Southern Metro Region Adrian Healy.

“From the moment we became aware of the home invasion in Rosebud, Trinity units and other police on the road were sharing intelligence to arrest those responsible and prevent further community harm.”

Police have arrested 661 burglars and car thieves 1700 times in the twelve months to the end of July 2025 as part of Operation Trinity.
