SAVANNAH, Ga. () — The United Way of the Coastal Empire launched its yearly fundraising campaign on Thursday. With the theme “Join the Journey,” this year’s initiative emphasizes addressing the region’s most urgent needs.

The kickoff event took place at the Savannah International Trade and Convention Center. For decades, the annual campaign has supported thousands of local residents.

The United Way of the Coastal Empire serves Bryan, Chatham, Liberty, Effingham and Long Counties.

Kimberly Waller, the organization’s president and CEO, notes that this year’s fundraising target builds on past successes. “Last year, we raised 4.9 million dollars for the community fund, so we’re upping the ante and aiming for a 5.2 million dollar goal because we know it will have a tremendous impact on our community.”
